WebAlginate is a natural polysaccharide extracted from algae. Alginate presents high biocompatibility, low toxicity and ease of gelation by addition of divalent cations such as Ca 2+. Alginate gel is widely used in food, medical, tissue engineering, daily chemical, textile, printing, dyeing, biotechnology and wastewater treatment. WebExtraction of alginate from brown algae is comprised of five main steps. As the alginate is present in cell wall of brown algae in the form of alginate salts, the first step of extraction is acidification in order to convert the alginate salts into water insoluble alginic acids.
