WebJul 8, 2024 · This one started out as an experiment with a knotty pine body from Rosser that I picked up with a bid of $52. This one was really knotty and interesting looking. I coated it with a Swedish Pine Tar / Linseed Oil / pure terpentine mix and rubbed it with fine steel wool untill all the little sanding swirls were gone. WebJan 21, 2012 · Maple does not stain well curly maple is even worse. Option 1 - Use boiled linseed oil to pop the grain seal it with dewaxed shellac (rattle can of Zinsser works just fine). Then top coat of your choice. Shellac is OK as a finial finish; or top coat as you wish.. Option 2 - Use dewaxed Garnet shellac. You'll need to mix your own from flakes.
