Hemp's central woody portion contains 36% cellulose and 27% lignin, whereas bast fiber contains 72% cellulose and 4% lignin [ 51 ]. At this time about 70 percent of the seeds will be ripe and the seed moisture is often about 22–30 percent. If harvesting is delayed, then grain losses can increase from shattering, bird damage, and grain quality.
